Kingsbury

Their Story

This client’s home was architecturally designed to reflect their love of the rich formality of a European estate. For the interior spaces, they wanted classical elements yet they expressed a desire for the furnishings and window treatments to be one hundred percent unique and have a bit of an edge.  This client's father had been an avid bowler. She wanted her lower-level space to remind her of all the great times spent bowling with her father.  A bowling alley and home theater were part of their lower level floor plans during the build so it would be up to me to make this fun space play well with the more formal main floors of their home.

Grand Salon

The Grand Salon’s eclectic sofa with its interesting style and curves embrace dramatic floor chandeliers at either end. Custom one-of-a-kind pillows on the sofa carry the fabrics on the window treatments and other furnishings around the room. A carved velvet fabric adorns the two-piece settee flanking and mimicking the carved fireplace surround and overmantle. Louis XV, XVI and Empire styles blend perfectly into this grand and opulent space. Finishing off the room is a Russian Empire area rug whose design was inspired by a set from the Bolshoi Ballet.

Lower Level Theatre and Bowling Alley

How do you blend a Mid-Century feel bowling alley with an Art Deco movie theater from the early days of cinema? In this case, the bowling balls are the answer and inspiration. The colors of the bowling balls inform the selection of the dramatic artwork in the ticket booth and that color scheme thematically segues to the theatre fabrics and trims. A carved gold vinyl wallcovering finishes the space in grand style.

Breakfast Room

A custom oval top table is the answer to a difficult seating problem.  During the building of this home, an error was made by locating a coffered ceiling too close to the bay window to accommodate seating as planned. After catching this error, I redesigned the window seat built-in and designed a custom oval top table that allowed for easy access to an otherwise difficult seating area. Custom upholstery was created for the seating area and two tufted horse head ottomans act as seating and keep the line of visibility open to appreciate the table. Gorgeous pocket weave fabric window treatments add that finishing touch.

Hearth Room

This room is an exercise in casual elegance.  The client’s love for animal prints and unique items was the focus in this room.  After being inspired by some antique zebra-striped chairs the client saw, I was able to source just the right elements to create the same look much to her surprise. Multiple fabrics and hair on hide materials were used in this space to add a bit of whimsy and created one of a kind pieces.
